DIY Guest Welcome Basket

Happy September, y’all! We are so pumped for the cooler weather and all that it brings! J and I love to have people over, and the fall season is ideal for creating a cozy space perfect for hosting guests.

Today I wanted to share with y’all one of our favorite things to do for overnight guests: the welcome basket. If you’ve read Make Your Home Cozier with These 3 Books then you already know how much I love The Lifegiving Home, which is full of tips on creating a space for you and your family that your guests will love too. Part of those tips focus on how uncomfortable it can be for overnight guests to ask for certain items, like towels, shampoo, or even food. Sometimes people don’t want to impose or cause an inconvenience when it really wouldn’t be a problem at all. We have found that something as simple as this basket (original unavailable – similar ones here and here) with travel shampoo/conditioner, fresh towels (we love these from Target – so pretty!), personalized snacks, water & gatorade, has made all the difference in how welcome and cozy our guests feel coming into our home.

Putting together these baskets is super fun for the hosts too – you can be as simple or extravagant as you want, and totally personalize each item to the person who is coming to stay 🙂

Blogging Lessons Part 1

Before launching Blonde Boss Babe, I had no idea how many technical skills I would need to learn to start and maintain a successful blog. This November will mark one year since I migrated platforms from wordpress.com to wordpress.org, which I recently realized I didn’t even do 100% correctly. LOLZ. How did it take me this long to find out? Well, all of the images from my posts pre-November 2016 disappeared from public view but would show when I was logged in working on the site. Ironically, this little bit of a nightmare has come with a lot of blessing mixed into the mess. Manually re-inserting the images into each post has provided an opportunity for me to look back on how much the blog has progressed, clean up/delete less than ideal content, and reminisce on some favorite projects. Of the 20+ posts affected, here are the few that made the cut (click the image to be taken to the post):

While I still have so many more things to learn about this crazy complex – yet super fun platform, in a post soon-to-come, I will be sharing with y’all some of the key steps that would have GREATLY simplified this process. Twist Back Bridal Hair Q&A

Happy weekend, y’all! As August draws to an end, we are now entering into wedding season round 3 – my personal favorite: the fall season. J and I will be going to about 5 weddings in the next two months, and I am so excited for all of the beautiful autumn wedding celebrations.

To kick off this fun time of the year, I am answering some of the recurring questions I have received throughout the past year, after sharing my Top 5 Reasons to do Your Own Wedding Hair & Makeup, about what products and tools I used for this twisty pulled-back look I did for our wedding:

Q. What type of curling iron did you use?

A. The Conair 3/4″. Instead of twisting the hair, I wrap it around the curling iron.

Q. Did you use any type of prep product before styling it?

A. Yes! After showering I always apply Oribe Balm to protect my hair when I know I will be styling it with heat. Then, immediately before I curl a section of hair, I spray it with Oribe Heat Styling Hair Spray – typically I don’t need finishing hair spray when using this product as it holds so well.

Q. Where did you get your hairpiece from?

A. It actually came from a headband I saw one afternoon at Francesca’s (similar one linked here). I cut the rubber sides off the headband then measured how much of the lacy design I would need to have it fit between the twists. Bobby pins were all I used to secure it. I loved that it was super light and didn’t interfere with my veil!

Even though it’s still August, the fall season is (thankfully) quickly approaching! While most people are looking forward to pumpkin spice everything, I’m over here grabbing as many throws and pillows as humanly possible (hehe sorry J). Perfect for creating a welcoming space that you and your guests will enjoy. Homes are safe havens, and The Lifegiving Home fully explains that concept while providing practical, encouraging, and easy to implement tips.

Elements of Style

Often we can get bogged down by decor and how to rearrange things in order to move with the seasons. The best place to start is with a clean slate, so always go back to Elements of Style in between each season to adjust the arranging of the core pieces of our home (main pieces of furniture, etc.) to refresh the space before adding in new seasonal touches.
